Equipment
Age-appropriate equipment sizing guides so every player is using the right gear.
Using the wrong bat length or weight is one of the most common causes of poor swing mechanics in youth baseball. An oversized bat causes players to cast their hands and lose hip rotation. Use this table as a starting point — individual body size and strength vary. All SRAA bat rules require a 2¾" maximum barrel diameter for baseball.
Note: SRAA requires a 2¾" maximum barrel diameter for all baseball divisions (8U through 14U). This is different from softball (2¼"). Quick size test: player holds bat at their side — knob should reach their wrist. If it reaches mid-forearm, the bat is too long.
Softball bats are drop-weight different from baseball bats. USA/ASA Softball certification is the relevant standard — different from the USA Baseball stamp on baseball bats.
Glove size varies by position as well as age. The numbers below refer to glove size in inches (the length from the heel to the top of the index finger pocket).
Softball gloves are generally 1"–2" larger than equivalent baseball gloves because the ball is larger. Position sizing logic is the same.
Note: When in doubt, go slightly smaller. A player can control a glove that's a little small. They cannot control one that's too large.
