Kid pitching begins — windmill mechanics and real competitive fast-pitch.
10U Softball is the pivotal transition year — kids start pitching for the first time, and the windmill mechanics that define fast-pitch softball are introduced. Finding and developing pitchers at this level is one of the most important things a coach can do.
Stealing rules vary by tier: Gold allows stealing after 1 out when the ball crosses the plate; Silver/Bronze allows stealing after 2 outs when the ball crosses the plate. No leadoffs at any 10U level — runners must remain on the base until the pitch is released. No stealing is allowed when the offensive team leads by 8 or more runs.
Bunting is allowed for 10U Gold only — not for Silver or Bronze. The walk rule applies to Silver/Bronze: after ball 3, the coach pitches. Gold has no walk limit. A 6-run per inning limit applies to all 10U divisions. The game ball is an 11-inch yellow optic cover.

Coach's Note
"Patience with pitchers at 10U is everything. Windmill mechanics are counterintuitive and take hundreds of reps before they feel natural. Practice pitching separately from team defense. Know your tier rules — Gold and Silver/Bronze have different walk limits, stealing rules, and bunt rules. All pitchers must wear a facemask per SRAA."
Players who turned 10 by September 1, 2025 are eligible for 10U Softball (born 2016 or 2017). Players who turn 11 after September 1, 2025 may also play 10U.
